Aluva Bridge and the Beautiful Periyar River

Monsoon has not yet left Kerala and it was here until the last few days back. In Aluva, the Periyar river becomes more beautiful during the rainy season and you can see it in its full flow and beauty. At the entrance of the Aluva bridge from the south, there is a Bar which serves alcohol and beer for the people who would like to spend some leisure time with their friends. A few days back, I happened to visit my friend who was coming to Aluva and we decided to meet at Periya Bar in Aluva, which we considered to be the most ideal place.

We met there during the evening time and luckily we got the balcony of the Periyar Bar for enjoy some good time. The balcony of the Periyar bar faces towards the Aluva Marthandavarma bridge and the Periyar river. This provides an amazing view that cannot be described in words. We sat there and had some drinks and food for some time. At the same time, we also enjoyed the raindrops falling into the Periyar river which made a sensation drizzling sound.

There is also a boat at the bank of the river, which helps you to enjoy a ride along the river Periyar and I saw a couple of guys taking this ride and enjoying it at the best along with the rain. I just managed to take some snaps of the view of the Periyar river and the famous Aluva bridge from the balcony of the Periyar Bar, which I decided to share with you all.

An Evening Near Aluva Bridge

2  Days back I just happened to stop after the Marthandavarma Bridge in Aluva near the Kadungalloor Junction and was waiting for one of my friends to arrive. It was evening and started getting dark and I started getting bored of waiting for my friend.

So I tried to take a couple of snaps with my phone, and even though my camera phone is not so good, I managed to click few and am sharing those photos here for all those related to Aluva and its premises.

The first picture is at the northern end of the Aluva bridge and the second one is the St. Anne's Church located near to it. You can see that it has got dark and the picture is not of high quality for which I apologize. But hope you enjoyed the pictures.

Udyogamandal ESI Hospital in Aluva to Go Hi-Tech

Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Kodikunnil Suresh, announced that the ESI Hospital in Udyogamandal, Aluva will be upgraded to a hi-tech, super-speciality hospital withing a time frame of two years. Necessary discussions have been held with the Director-General, the Finance Commissioner and the Insurance Commissioner of the  Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) at Delhi in this regard and approvals have been obtained.

Mr Kodikunnil Suresh has visited all hospitals, dispensaries and offices under the ESI Corporation in Kerala and ascertained that the longstanding demand for the upgradation of the Udyogamandal ESI Hospital is essential and logical, when considering the dilapidated condition of the hospital. ESI Corporation will appoint a Central Government agency to make an in depth study regarding the upgradation.

The Udyogamandal hospital in Aluva has facilities to admit 100 in-patients but it is estimated that 200 more patients can be admitted when the proposed wing of the hospital will become functional in two years’ time, the procedures for which have progressed up to invitation of tenders. 600 OP consultations being carried out per day would be increased to nearly 1,200 with once the new wing and the improved facilities are in place.

While going through the details of the proposed project, the Minister also mentioned that the ESI hospitals in Kerala have been finding it very much difficult to get super-speciality doctors despite advertising the requirement nationally. If the situation persists, ESI would start thinking of running the proposed super-speciality hospitals under public-private partnership (PPP) and this will include providing space and facilities to private parties.

The demand to begin a medical college attached to the Udyogamandal ESI Hospital in Aluva cannot be considered until more land of about 30 acres, is obtained. Presently the hospital is confined to only 14 acres.

The Vacancies at the Aluva ESI hospital, has not been filled for a long time, and steps have been taken to fill all vacancies including that of regular specialist doctors. Around 15 such posts would be filled immediately and the authorities have also considered recruiting doctors and paramedics under contract basis. The new wing of the Udyogamandal ESI hospital will have speciality departments like cardiac catheterisation laboratory,  oncology department, modern dialysis unit and other health care departments. Provision for an ICU ward and two operation theatres will also be included in the budget. Overall the Aluva ESI dispensary will be renovated into a primary hospital for admitting patients and providing treatment.

Heavy Rain in Aluva Brings Relief From Summer Heat

The heavy rain that lashed out in Aluva and its surrounding area yesterday evening, have brought the much awaited respite from the excessive heat experienced in this area for the past few weeks. Even though it was raining heavily in the surrounding districts of Ernakulam for the last few days, Aluva had been deprived of the summer showers leaving the area in unbearable scorching heat.

Few areas were also experiencing issues with sufficient drinking water and this summer rain might help in resolving that issue to some extent. 2 or 3 continuous rains in the coming days would really bring some true respite from the summer heat in Aluva. Actually the isolated rain that Aluva experienced would further worsen the climatic conditions if it do not rain in the next 2 or 3 days. The isolate rains would again increase the heat and also bring high level of humidity.

But yesterday's rain has helped to reduce the level of dust particles especially on the road and hope that there would be no issue of dust in the coming days. Some of the major roads such as the one leading from Kadungalloor to Muppathadam Junction had been tarred fully 3 days back, and this rain has helped to clean away the dust and make the road more rigid and beautiful.

The rain also has given fresh life to the plants surrounding my compound as they were all on the verge of burning out in the extreme heat. The rain also helped to purify the air, as Aluva is an industrial area and the polluted air would be cleaned to some extend with the help of such summer rains. Places such as Eloor, Pathalam, Muppathadam etc are all industrial area and the pollution level is always high on the areas surrounding these places. The rain would help in removing some of the atmospheric pollution and give fresh air to residents. Hope that the summer rain would come again in the next 2-3 days in Aluva.

Aluva is Not at all a good Shopping Destination

I have been staying in Aluva for the last 4 months and was really comfortable with the city as it had every facility such as KSRTC bus stand, railway station and airport in the near vicinity. Aluva is also a good town to spend your time in the evening and the Periyar river bank in Aluva is one of the major attractions of Aluva.

But still Aluva is lacking some major things and I noticed this only when I experienced the lack of certain things in my personal life. Unlike other major municipalities in Ernakulam district, Aluva is not the best place for shopping. Aluva does not have a good shopping destination when compared with the other cities.

A major example for the above fact is that if you go for buying some good cloth materials in Aluva, you will feel disappointed as you might not be able to get a good cloth item in Aluva. The reasons may be many such as limited selections, bad quality, low profile shops etc. Same is the case of Gold shops in Aluva, as there are a number of small shops but none of them would be able to provide the ornaments that you are looking out for.

The only big name in dress showroom at Aluva is the Seemas which is pathetic to say the least. I am still wondering what they are doing in that huge building by the side of the National Highway. I once happened to go there for a shopping and really felt bad at the bad selection of dress materials that were present. Moreover, if you visit Seemas in Aluva  you can see a huge crowd inside and feel like you are standing in the middle of a vegetable market. The sales girls at Seemas were trying their best to convince me, but I could not help myself from running out of the showroom.

If you need to go for a gold shopping or dress shopping, then don't even dare to think about Aluva. Instead you can visit Angamaly or Kochi for a better shopping experience. In my opinion, Angamaly is one of the best place for shopping when compared with Aluva.
